I am an Assistant Professor of Engineering Systems and Climate Security at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, Delft University of Technology. I am also an academic policy fellow at the TU Delft Climate Safety & Security Centre (CaSS), a Honorary Research Associate at the Environmental Change Institute (University of Oxford), and a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Research Interests
My research focuses on the quantifying the systemic risks that climate change poses to infrastructure systems and the essential services they provide to society, ranging from local-scale (e.g., household essential services) to global-scale (e.g., food and energy supplies) analyses. I develop new modelling tools to better understand and anticipate these risks, and identify solutions to enhance resilience and reduce inequalities. In addition, I have a strong research interest in developing high-resolution geospatial modelling tools to inform strategic long-term infrastructure planning decisions, and the use of novel high-frequency data to understand human mobility patterns under climate stress.
My research has covered a variety of countries and regions, including South Asia, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa. I work with various international organisations such as the World Bank, the International Transport Forum (ITF), the Global Centre on Adaptation, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to translate my research into policy and practise. I am the co-founder and geospatial modelling lead of the PortWatch platform, a real-time trade activity monitor of ports and strategic maritime routes globally.
